Thanks, Bill! Keep ‘em coming!
This trim router is only slightly more expensive… I wonder if that’s more power than would be useful.

seriously though, it’s possible but the laser cutter does lend a lot of precision to the cuts.
Yes, Bill. Most laser cutters will use coloring to differentiate between cuts & control cut ordering. Our DXF files use black as engravings, red & green as cuts (so that interior cuts can happen before the whole piece gets cut out).
nazerine, the DXF is set up in layers; one for each cut sheet, just like in the instructions. I don’t know sketchup or vcarve, so I can’t troubleshoot specifics of those programs, but if there’s a layer function in either, try that.
I’m going to move this topic to the DIYLILCNC Builders forum, as it relates to DIYLILCNC building.
Chris, check out the downloads section. Right click and select ‘Save As…’ to get the .zip file, that contains instructions & CAD files.
Also, please see the downloads section for a new .zip with a DXF included. Hope that helps!
OK, after some noodling with symbols, we’ve got everything as a DXF. It’s in the .zip file under the downloads section.
nazerine, you can now post images with the img tag!
Sorry, it is not a default option in bbPress… had to install a plugin.
Bill, glad to see you are up and posting :) We did try making the X-beam in sections to avoid just this problem, but it lead to a weak structure.
I think that you could shorten all four of those X-beam parts, just keep in mind that this will limit the travel of the X-axis. You’d also have to cut the X-rails shorter. This could be compensated for by lengthening the cutting bed & Y-rails.
I’d have to take a closer look at the plans to be sure I’m not missing any parts, but I think that this is possible. Keep us posted if you are successful with modifying the X-beam parts.
Believe it or not we used Illustrator. We have the .ai files, but they’re basically the same as the PDF. Is there a specific format that you need?
