Z Cart Sides Mismatched?

Hey,

I am in the middle of my first DIYLILCNC build. I got to the Z Cart assembled and one Z Cart side has seven sets of cuts off 3 mm.
The parts were lasercut from Ponoko and the DIYLILCNC V1.0.2 template provided by another Ponoko member who has uploaded them. I am not sure if he made a mistake when uploading them or accidentally modified them or if there is an error in the DIYLILCNCv1.0.2 layered DXF file. I got a response from him that he had simply uploaded the files from here. I am unable to view the layered files.... so I just wanted to know if the layered file has this same error.

Can you send a picture of the two parts that are mating incorrectly?

Here's pics of the two z cart sides on top of each other. The seven sets of cuts (two rectangles and a machine screw hole) are all off the same amount. (Approx. 3mm. vertically) All other cuts are right on. The joints on both Z Cart sides will mate however the Z Cart Top or (Bottom?) will not. The other pieces in the Z cart assembly were checked and the error was found to be on the Z Cart side.

Hmm, that does look like a problem. This is a good example of the curveballs that come with distributed authorship, as we did not directly supervise the upload to Ponoko.

Fortunately, your issue appears to be fixable on the back end. I'd recommend stacking the two panels just like in your first picture, marking the offending offset edges, then shaving them down with a bandsaw, file or industrial knife. Bolt registration may be a little more challenging - you could add washers, or you may decide to simply glue the parts that meet at the imprecise joint. As long as you can get the rig up and working, you should be able to manufacture your own replacement part much cheaper than Ponoko. However, if you have more money than time, we could work together to produce an updated part drawing for that one panel.

The bolts won't register if the Z Cart is shaved down. I'm going for a real tight tolerance on the machine so I got a new Z Cart side in from Ponoko today.

I might tackle the Ponoko files this summer, but right now I just want to get this thing running and give a heads up to others buying from Ponoko. Thanks.
