MrPaul.

Nope. I haven't had any issues with the cut surfaces. The laser does a nice job burning the edges.... the edges of my base have chipped a little but these were cut on a table saw and do not seem to do anything to the integrity of the base... o

on another note. I haven't worked on mine in about a week. I am packing and getting ready to start another quarter of school in Cincinnati. So once I'm all settled in I'll get all the electronics done and see what happens.

Nice Work!

As I've had tremendous issues cutting the Baltic Birch Ply on the laser I have access to I was tempted to try MDF instead. Have you had any issues with the cut surfaces degrading or flaking?

@JRdezigns, very exciting! Looks like you are making some great progress. Let us know about those bearings.

No they are shorter then listed in the instructions. I have a longer set if the racking becomes an issue. The longer ones cut down on the Y axis cut size so I'm going to give it a try and see what happens. I have some thoughts of adding another set of bearings and vertical wall for them to roll against. Once its up and running I'll toy around with that.

Looking good! One question: are those Y bearing assemblies the same length as set out in the instructions? We had to play around with the length when racking became an issue, and now I'm wondering if the correct measurement is listed in the PDF. Hopefully they will work fine, but if you have problems once the device is up and running you might need to lengthen those bearings.

Lots of progress. Everything is all together. Just waiting on the transformer and I'll start soldering everything for the driver board this week. I used the dremel 300 instead of the 395.

Very nice! That's a simple little solution for changing the overall work table depth. I'll post a couple more of your photos in the gallery section.

I have been wanting to build a cnc for well over a year.. When I came across this site I knew it was going to happen.. I have never done any sort of cnc build before so this will be my first attempt and I am extremely confident I can pull this off.

Great job on getting the information together and creating this DIYLILCNC...

I downloaded and got the panels cut out about 2 months ago when I was still in Cincinnati and had access to my schools Laser cutter. (cost $78) I was in a rush to get this done before I moved back to NY for CO-OP. So I have to cut a few parts by hand after the revisions. Its not a problem so I still have to get that done..
Since I couldn't obtain chipboard I opted for MDF since it was cheap and available on short notice from home dept. Because of my rush I ran into the problem that my MDF was exactly .25" thick ..and the slots where .24".
Some of the tabs fit but where really snug. I decided to get out the orbital sander and slim up the cut panels a bit, spent about an hour sanding now everything fits just fine.. I placed an order for the hardware and will order the motors and controller next week. I'll keep this updated as progress continues.

Images and build log can be viewd on my blog.
