@tkluysk Thanks for the complements :)
I started with the most recent (as of maybe a month ago) DXFs and converted them to solid models. From there I tweaked the outlines to fix the y-belt problem and make a few lines square. I started out working parametrically but I ran into computer speed/Solidworks reliability issues (crashing every 5 minutes and 10 minute rebuilds proved too much for me)

As it stands now they are separate pieces (with a few exceptions) I'm thinking next round should go through with a better system and link all the sloth widths etc.

@Chris: thanks again for the Rhino model. I read on the download page that it doesn't reflect the latest fixes, so I'll probably re-model from the latest drawings, and use whatever parts I can salvage from the Rhino model (bearings etc).

@Jaques: is that what you did for the Solidworks model? Start from the latest DXFs I mean. Beautiful work bytheway!

I can't open Solidworks file at this time, so I wonder: is the file parametric? Ie if you change the line drawing, does the corresponding 3D part change along with it? Is there a single template slot that changes all slots on the model?

@tkluysk, we have a model in Rhino (.3ds) format that we use for rendering and visualization. Not sure how it'll transfer to DXF, but I'll send you an attachment. Let me know if it's useful and maybe we'll post it in the downloads section for others.

[reposting this under its own topic]

I am interested in the assembled 3D model. I'd like to use it to visualize a length modification, and maybe to help me with the conversion to metric.

I come from a film background, so I'm not very familiar with CAD packages. I work in Maya/Houdini/3D Max. Preferred formats would be DXF (3D), OBJ, or FBX. As long as grouping/hierachy is preserved.

After doing more research, and according to documentation inkscape will only export dxf, not read it. No idea about what blender does. However I found Qcad will work, it takes forever to load the data. I went to sleep at 2:00 and the data was there at 7:00. Will list other software that works as I come across it.

Well I have tried both and they don't seem to work. Inkscape loads, but just show blank pages, where I can select the different layers but nothing seems to be there. Installed blender but that seemed to do nothing. Waited about 15 minutes ... just in case. Could you post the panels individually. From reading the forum that seems to be some of the problems..( maybe ) Thanks.

Sorry about the late response... I have been busy converting the .DXF files to Solidworks files.

Pro-E==WF
WF (Wildfire) is the newest iteration of the Pro-Engineer CAD/CAM/CAE software suite, similar to Solidworks, Inventor, etc...

My preferred format is Solidworks 2009 or 2010.

BTW, I have all of the components designed in Solidworks 2009 now, and am creating the sub-assemblies. I have, by default, made all of the components .25" thick, but after reading the notes about the issues relating to the thicknesses of Masonite available, I may refine this to .240"(exactly the same size as the width of the slot).

I can supply now all of the components shown in the .DXF files as native
Solidworks files, but they are only 'dumb' components tat use the .DXF files as sketch patterns. There is no 'associativity' defined in the part files.

I can turn over the native files at any time you wish (or to anyone who wishes...)

I noticed that in the DXF file the lines are all exploded and not closed polylines. This could possibly slow down some machines if they don't complete whole lines in a continuous fashion but rather jump around from one partial line segment to another. I have re-built the polylines in a .DWG / or .DXF file if it is desireable to anyone.

The PDF file can be imported in an open-source line drawing software called Inkscape (Windows/Mac/Linux). From there it can be edited and saved as SVG which is a very common standard format that almost any software can use.

I can make all of the cut sheets as Solidworks files (2010) preferred, or any other 3D format SW supports. I can also create files as Pro-Engineer files up to Wildfire 4 (Soon WF 5).

Good work! I look forward to contributing to this project.

nazerine, the DXF is set up in layers; one for each cut sheet, just like in the instructions. I don't know sketchup or vcarve, so I can't troubleshoot specifics of those programs, but if there's a layer function in either, try that.

It would seem some of the issues are corrected with the DXF; but alas there are new ones.

Circles are now almost vector lines, they are now 4-piece open vector circles. I have to manually join/close them to apply a cutting tool path. All other vectors are joined and closed properly.

Perhaps I'm just a DXF newb, but I can only get the 'first page' when loading it. Both in google sketchup, and vectric vcarve. I would imagine there should be one dxf file, for each 16x32" sheet to be cut.

Otherwise it loads to scale correctly and ready for me to design some tool paths to cut this on a cnc router :)

Also, please see the downloads section for a new .zip with a DXF included. Hope that helps!

OK, after some noodling with symbols, we've got everything as a DXF. It's in the .zip file under the downloads section.

nazerine, you can now post images with the img tag!

Sorry, it is not a default option in bbPress... had to install a plugin.
